William Cook was born in 1974 in Alert Bay on Cormorant Island, BC. Born to the Namgis Tribe, he is a member of the Kwakwaka'wakw people and a cousin to Harold Alfred, another reputable and talented northwest Indigenous artist.
William began his artisan career working with prints and later apprenticed for two years under the tutelage of Paddy Seaweed. He has been carving gold and sterling silver jewellery since 1992.
In 2016, William's original design was selected from many entries to be featured on the exterior of a new, high-speed passenger ferry in the downtown harbours of Victoria and Vancouver. These Ferries have since been moved to use in Central America.
He currently lives and works in Victoria.
