Michel de Bellefeuille was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec. In 1990, he started a High School teaching career as a French teacher in one of Montreal's secondary schools. One day while shopping for a gift for his girlfriend, he realized his own potential and desire to design contemporary jewellery.

He is mainly self-taught, but took artisan courses at L'ecole de Joaillerie de Montreal. He feels that his art is his poetic expression. Michel works in sterling silver and gold and uses an oxidation process to achieve texture and tone in his jewellery. He has been honoured with several prestigious awards for his jewellery art. They are the Prix Ville de Quebec, the Prix Excellence and the Jean-Marie Gauvreau Prix d'Excellence Métiers d'Art in Montreal.

Currently, he lives near Montreal at St Jean-sur-Richelieu.
