Don Lancaster was born on May 31, 1965 in Hazelton, British Columbia. While at school he began to carve under the guidance of his uncle, Norman Seaweed. As a professional artist in Victoria, he continues to create highly individualistic pieces unique to the Kwakwaka’wakw tradition. His pieces are carved using simple hand tools, many of which have been in his family for generations. It is through these tools and contact with other traditional artists that Don’s technique and unusual style has evolved.
