Amy Edgars

Amy started learning to carve argillite when she was a small child from her father, Myles Edgars. Myles himself started carving when he was 13 years old, learning how to make his own tools from Haida carver Richard Yeltatzie and with the influence and mentoring of his brother-in-law, Steven Collinson. To support the growth and evolution of Haida Art, Myles works to pass on his skill and experience to young carvers, including his daughter Amy. Raised on the beautiful islands of Haida Gwaii, Amy carves exquisite sculptures, pendants, and earrings in the tradition of her ancestors, who first began carving the black slate and selling it to sailors in the early 1800s
