Throughout history, bracelets have served as powerful, personal and cultural symbols. Whether used to convey social status, religious beliefs, personal achievements, or affiliations with specific groups or movements, bracelets have been a way for individuals to visually express their uniqueness and identity. From ancient Egypt to the Renaissance, bracelets have been a staple part of ones wardrobe, which has stayed a prominent jewellery piece for many people in present day. From making a statement to simply complimenting an outfit–it's ideal to find the perfect fit. Whether you're shopping for bangles, cuffs, or clasp linked, knowing how to measure for them is key to finding the perfect fit. At Artina's, we are dedicated to helping you figure out exactly what that fit is–and pleased to offer a wide variety of Indigenous and contemporary artists jewellery, with all of their unique, bracelet designs.

The Importance of Measuring your Wrist Size

Measuring the size of your wrist before looking around in our store or shopping online, is a good way to understand what might fit you the best. Even though cuff bracelets are sized slightly different than a chain link, or an elastic beaded bracelet–knowing the general size of your wrist will help make shopping at Artina's a lot easier.

What you Need

To measure your wrist size at home, all you need is either a soft measuring tape, a piece of string or a ribbon.

How to measure for Bangles

This type of bracelet does not have a clasp or an opening that can stretch, therefore it's the most ideal to measure your wrist for this kind of bracelet. When measuring for a bangle bracelet, you should measure the widest part of your hand, which is typically the knuckles. Take the measuring tape or string/ribbon and wrap it around your knuckles, leaving an inch of room. By leaving an inch, you'll be able to slide the bangle over your hand comfortably, it wont fit too tight and will still fit on your wrist nicely.

How to measure for Clasp Bracelets

Measuring clasp link bracelets takes a little more thought, as the size also depends on the length and width of the clasp link. To start, wrap the tape measure just above your wrist bone where a watch would typically be worn, then note where the part of the tape measure overlaps. If using a ribbon or a string to measure, make note of where the ends of the string or ribbon meet. Measure your wrist in a similar way you would for a cuff bracelet, then don't forget to note the size of the clasp link. Depending on what the width and length of the clasp measurement is, add extra length to the final measurement. Typically about half an inch. This will also depend on how loose or tight you'd like to wear your chain linked bracelets.

How to measure for Cuffs

Cuff bracelets are meant to fit more snug around your wrist than a bangle does and when measuring for a cuff, it's opposite to a bangle. Instead of measuring the widest part of your hand, you measure the narrowest part of your wrist. This way the cuff wont slide around and will sit facing up rather than moving as much on your wrist as a bangle would.

Final tips

Lastly, if you're unsure about your size when measuring or in between sizes–remember that its best to size up for a more comfortable fit. So whether you prefer to style a gold bangle bracelet, a sterling silver chain or a uniquely designed Indigenous cuff, knowing the size of your wrist for each of these types of bracelets will help benefit your shopping experience–online or in store.
